These Are the Christmas Backyard DIY Ideas I Wish I Knew Sooner

Celebrating Christmas isn’t just always inside your house. As an outdoor enthusiast, I also prefer spending time chilling outside in the backyard on freezing winter nights. Too often, backyards are left aside in all seasons. This year, with just a little effort and a touch of decoration, you can make your home backyard turn into a cozy holiday retreat. A place full of laughter and happiness this Christmas.

I was scrolling on Reddit to find some ideas, and I found this one. I had to stop for a while. This backyard looks like it’s straight out of a Christmas movie. The wooden playhouse stays silently in a corner of the backyard. I just love how u/geppetto10 decorates it with some fairy lights over its roof, casting a warm, cozy glow on the frosty ground. I can hear how quiet this scenery is.

Large-sized ornaments are such a bold idea for your backyard this winter. You can easily find them at decor shops, or get creative and make your own at home using inexpensive toy balls for kids. You can make baubles, stars, or even garlands to turn those in your yard into a Christmas tree, making your house look more festive and whimsical.

I’m a big fan of something like this. The scarlet Adirondack chairs setup is definitely the highlight of u/begenuine_’s Christmas backyard. They are dusted slightly with snow and shone by the golden string lights above. It will be even more perfect with a bonfire, beer, family, and friends. The whole scene just feels like a Christmas postcard.

This little rustic backyard has a definite 10/10 cozy vibe. The woody walls around the yard with tiny pine trees make the scene even impressive. I love the logs in the corner of the yard, making the winter less cold than usual. With just some tiny light bugs hanging on the roof and trees, your lovely backyard has become a cozy hideaway for you and your loved one this holiday.

If you have a big firewood “den” in your backyard and you don’t know what to do with it, just look at u/PokePlant’s. He has a wonderful one with just some lights around it. Even the snow seems to be glowing. I really like the matching color between the fire and those lights. The red chairs in the middle with the bonfire make it more peaceful and beautiful.

When you take a closer look, it will be like this. It is such a cozy, easy one that you can make yourself this Christmas.

To be honest, to have a themed backyard like this one for Christmas is not an easy story. You might have to ask all members of your family to join and help with it. The carnival tent is absolutely a highlight of your yard. You can even add more with the carousel horses and Nutcrackers. Although this requires lots of effort, it also brings back joy and happiness to your family.

u/mohair69 created this amazing Christmas tree in his backyard with just a plastic hockey stick, a flashlight, and a sparkler. I honestly love this handicraft and the way it shines with the Milky Way behind. How impressive it is, and I can tell he put a lot of effort into capturing this breathtaking picture.

I’m totally blown away by this while scrolling, looking for ideas to decorate my backyard. These two reindeer faces and the sledge were made totally from recycled materials. The faces come to life with colorful tin lids and bottle caps, while the rusty sledge was turned into a lively deer with a pop red nose.

This stunning cozy winter patio, by Anna-Lena Lindqvist on Reddit, is a perfect example of how candles and layered textiles can transform your outdoor space into a cozy Christmas retreat. You just need to take out a sofa and some pillows. Imagine yourself sitting here in the silence of winter, how tranquil and peaceful you can be.

Having a specific theme for your backyard is an awesome idea that I guess you might find interesting. Transforming the backyard into a lovely candy cane land this holiday will attract more curiosity. It gives off a whimsical and festive vibe. Especially, you can even do these candy canes at home yourself with just PE foams and colored tape wrapped around.

How about adding something new to your backyard this year? I bet you’re gonna like these DIY penguins. They are adorable, aren’t they? You can actually buy them at any decor shop or do it yourself. Put some of these in your yard, and the whole house suddenly looks more lively.

If your place is usually covered in snow in winter, creating a handmade igloo is not a bad idea. I think I’m going to make my backyard one this Christmas to make my home more lively. You can take this idea of mine and even be more creative by adding some humorous elements to your Arctic garden.

Not gonna lie, I’m captivated by the way u/fornaughtytimes set up her backyard for this Christmas. The Christmas tree with flowers is such a fantastic combo here. They pair so well in colors, making the yard look joyous and festive this holiday season. The lights and greenery on the top even highlight this scenery more impressively.

If you still have no idea of what you will do with your backyard this Christmas, I can look at u/AfrAsian’s for inspiration. This decoration really amazed me because of its boldness and creativity. I wonder how long it takes to accomplish this one. That’s an insane number of Duplos, but you can definitely make these yourself.

I have to admit that u/ze4eg did a very good job. He actually made this deer entirely out of wire by himself. It looks so elegant and professional. He only needs to put on some more fairy lights to complete this amazing work. Imagine you put this one in your backyard on Christmas night. 10/10.
